Conference:
Migrant and Diasporic Cinema in Contemporary Europe
July 06 2006 to July 08 2006
Venue: Lincoln College, Oxford
This conference is hosted by Film Studies and the Institute for Historical and Cultural Research at Oxford Brookes University.
This conference seeks to explore how migrant and diasporic filmmakers have redefined our understanding of European cinema. By adopting a comparative perspective in our search for the commonalities and specificities between migrant and diasporic cinemas across different European countries, we endeavour to transcend the borders and limitations of an analytical framework that privileges the concept of discrete national cinemas.
Plenary Speakers:
- Hamid Naficy, Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill.
- Rob Burns, University of Warwick
- Dina Iordanova, University of St. Andrews
- Deniz Göktürk, University of California, Berkeley
The Conference includes a Special Panel on Pawel Pawlikowski, AHRC Fellow in the Creative and Performing Arts, Film Studies, at Oxford Brookes University
