Dull and boring physics teacher Daniel (Moritz Bleibtreu) has no plans for the summer vacation which he plans to spend in Hamburg. But then he falls head over heels in love with the Turkish girl Melek (Idil Üner) and decides to follow her to Istanbul. Together with the jewellery seller July (Christiane Paul), who secretly fancies hiim,  he travels all the way from Hamburg to Istanbul, encountering a series of adventures, obstacles and surprises on the way. When he reaches his destination and meets up with Melek, Daniel realises that he is actually in love with the German girl July and they become a couple, whereas Melek is reunited with her German-Turkish boyfriend (Mehmet Kurtulus) who has also travelled all the way from Hamburg to Istanbul with the dead body of his Turkish uncle in the boot of the car, granting him his last wish to be buried in Turkey.
